About Low End Living
Low End Living is an independent buying-guide site about UPS battery backups. A UPS is the box that keeps your computer, modem and router running for a few minutes when the power goes out.
We write for people who work from home, run a small office or just want the internet to stay up through a storm. Our goal is to help you pick a unit that powers your gear long enough, without paying for size you'll never use.
What we cover
Our guides cover battery backups from brands like APC, CyberPower, Tripp Lite, GOLDENMATE and Vertiv. We sort them by what they power: desktop PCs, home networks, Starlink, small offices and more.
We also explain the parts that trip up most shoppers. That means VA versus watts, runtime, sine wave output, AVR, battery types and what those beeps mean.
How we work
We read the specs, the manuals and the makers' own runtime charts for every unit we cover. We also look at what owners often report after a year or two of use.
Then we turn that into plain guides, side-by-side comparisons and clear picks. Our How we research page lists the steps.
What we are not
We don't make or sell battery backups, and no brand pays us to rank its products. Low End Living isn't affiliated with APC, CyberPower, Tripp Lite or any other maker.
We don't claim to have run every unit through an outage of our own. When we pick something, we say why, based on its specs, its features and owner feedback.
We don't give wiring steps for house circuits. A UPS is for plug-in electronics, so follow the maker's manual and call a licensed electrician for anything inside your walls.
How the site is paid for
Some links here go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never decides which units we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
