Paul Brierley
Paul Brierley was born and grew up in the northwest of England, before moving to the other side of the country to study Physics at university. Several years passed and he now finds himself in the same University town.
The intervening years have seen him working in nanoscale magnetism research, computer sales, and as an IT consultant. Recently he switched to working in university administration &endash; a change which has allowed him to at long last attain that mythical work-life balance.
A geek at heart, Paul fills his spare time with a mixture of tinkering with old computers, programming for newer ones, and indulging in 1001 other activities, of which learning Spanish is the latest.
Paul writes, "my student years (all six of them living away from parents and supporting myself) have taught me plenty about budgeting and frugality. I try my utmost to get the most from my money. I'm very strongly into recycling and am beginning to build up something of a bookshelf on life in a post-oil society."
Paul's job is running the timetable of the third oldest university in England. He has an addiction to both cups of tea and chocolate in all forms. He don't own a car and has resisted doing so for years for environmental reasons, although he believes he'll "have to cave on that one very soon".
